ndependent National Electoral Commission has de-registered two more political parties, bringing the total number of axed parties to 30.

The fresh de-resgistered parties are Change Advocacy Party and Democratic Front for a Peoples Federation.

Our correspondent gathered that the commission took the decision to de-register the parties after its meeting on February 5.

The parties, INEC said, failed to meet the requirements stipulated by the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Kayode Idowu, confirmed the development.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, had justified the earlier de-registration of 28 political parties, saying the action was because the parties did not meeting the requirement of the law.

Speaking with journalists during a meeting with stakeholders and its validation conference of 2012-2016 strategic plans, he had also warned, “More parties could be deregistered so long as they fail to meet the requirements of the law”.

He however said there was room for the registeration of additional parties that meet the laid down rules.

Jega said, “We have taken the decision to de-register 28 parties and as far as we are concerned, we have acted legally.”
